Kid Spas On The Rise

March 14th, 2011

Kid Spa Pedicure and ManicureYou enjoy a nice manicure and pedicure so why wouldn’t your kids?  Kids spas are on the rise according to an article in the Lake County News-Sun.  Apparently, kid spa “pedicures and manicures utilize ME! Bath’s ice cream-flavored polishes, so kids can have nails that smell like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry or papaya nectar. Hairstyle themes run the gamut from “rockstar” to “princess” to “mermaid luau,” and hair extensions or a tiara are included.”

The only thing to top of your kid spa day would be a fabulous pair of flexflops in your favorite terry cloth color!

Kate Middleton To Wear Flats!

March 12th, 2011

None of us would be shocked to see a bride or groom walking down the aisle on their wedding day in flip flops or flats (especially those of us at flexflop!).  As the Huffington Post recently reported, none other than Kate Middleton soon to be Princess Kate, has also chosen flats as one of her “four” pairs of shoes.  Those of us here at Flexflop have tried to reach the soon to be princess and suggest a pair of flexflops, perhaps the bridal line, however, (sigh) we have had a hard time tracking down Kate.  She seems to  be extremely busy, as any bride is before the big day.  The flats are said to look like slippers and be “covered in multiple layers of silk, and heavily embroidered,” Yvonne Yorkel writes for the Huffington Post.

Fish Pedicure – A new craze?

March 11th, 2011

Did you ever think you would hear of a pedicure involving fish?  Well, apparently in the UK a new chain of pedicure stores has opened which involve just that, pedicures and fish.   According to an article written by The Crawley Observer,  “Fish spa pedicures involve people allowing Garra rufa fish to eat dead skin from their feet. But concerns have been raised that infections could be spread through open wounds.”

Other sources have noted spas in Northern Virginia and other states introducing fish pedicures on their menu for as little as $35.

A new craze or just plain crazy?  Read the full article here and you be the judge.

Spa Spotlight: Le Petite Retreat Day Spa

February 11th, 2011

Are you looking for the perfect place to get away with your beau on Valentine’s Day? Then we’ve got a special treat for you!

This week’s Spa Spotlight is on Le Petite Retreat Day Spa in Los Angeles, Calif. Co-Owner Ron Kustek gives us a behind-the-scenes look at what makes LPR Day Spa the perfect Valentine’s Day destination, all year long.

Le Petite Retreat Day Spa
Location: 331 N. Larchmont Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90004
Phone: (323) 466-1028
Website: http://www.lprdayspa.com

FlexFlop (FF): What inspired you to enter the spa industry?

Ron Kustek (RK): Lysa Kustek and I were inspired from our extensive travels throughout Europe, and the spa experiences we encounterd. Finding there was nothing like the kind of escape experience one finds and enjoys in the high-end European spas, Lysa and I created Le Petite Retreat day spa in Los Angeles, with a vacation-resort-getaway feel, instead of the clinical treatment centers like other spas.

FF: What has been your greatest success as a spa owner thus far?

RK: For over 10 years we have helped thousands enjoy massage, facials, and especially couples treatments together in LA – plus we’ve had over 20 marriage proposals, and countless other celebrations! We’ve tried to remain truly personal and accessible in creating our strong following and great reputation, and know that we’re not the spa for everybody!

FF: What is your spa’s recipe for success during tough economic times?

RK: Success is delivering an experience people can’t get elsewhere, at a competitive price. There are so many discount spas hurting to attract any business they can, and those who are just deal seekers are often not very well behaved when at the spa, and sometimes don’t appreciate the hard work that a masseuse or facilist has to do. Many spa-hopper-dealters treat therapists and service staff as ‘lesser-thans’, which we don’t tolerate.

FF: Are there any trends on the rise that you’ve considered incorporating into your services?

RK: We’re always looking for not only new treatments, but those that are interesting and effective.

FF: What feelings and thoughts do you want people to go home with when they leave your spa?

RK: We want people to remember forever their great memory – either their own, or the memory they shared (and remember to return!) Not everyone can spa every month, so feeling like you’ve been heard, and taken care of, and that you will always remember ‘Le Petite Retreat day spa’ — which is why our mission is our motto: “Feel The Experience”.

Celebs Look to Beauty’s Bestseller for Latest Lines

February 9th, 2011

Traditional media outlets are catching on to the latest fad among celebrity A-listers: nail polish endorsement.

We’ve been updating you on this new trend for the past couple months and it’s going to be covered on ABC’s “Nightline” tonight at 11:35 p.m. ET.

Celebrity names from Sarah Jessica Parker to Kim Kardashian have been a staple at perfume and makeup counters for years, but now some are lending their popular brands to nail polish lines, including singers Katy Perry and [Justin] Bieber. The move has proven to be an enormous success.

Buyers flushed with “Bieber fever” cleaned out the pop star’s polish collection from Walmarts around the country in less than two months after his line launched in December 2010.

Kobe hit up a nail salon in Newport Beach, CA for a little mani-pedi action last Monday — the day after his Lakers lost a tough game to the Boston Celtics.
