Monday, March 14th, 2011

Kid Spa Pedicure and ManicureYou enjoy a nice manicure and pedicure so why wouldn’t your kids?  Kids spas are on the rise according to an article in the Lake County News-Sun.  Apparently, kid spa “pedicures and manicures utilize ME! Bath’s ice cream-flavored polishes, so kids can have nails that smell like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry or papaya nectar. Hairstyle themes run the gamut from “rockstar” to “princess” to “mermaid luau,” and hair extensions or a tiara are included.”

The only thing to top of your kid spa day would be a fabulous pair of flexflops in your favorite terry cloth color!

Fish Pedicure – A new craze?

Friday, March 11th, 2011

Did you ever think you would hear of a pedicure involving fish?  Well, apparently in the UK a new chain of pedicure stores has opened which involve just that, pedicures and fish.   According to an article written by The Crawley Observer,  “Fish spa pedicures involve people allowing Garra rufa fish to eat dead skin from their feet. But concerns have been raised that infections could be spread through open wounds.”

Other sources have noted spas in Northern Virginia and other states introducing fish pedicures on their menu for as little as $35.

A new craze or just plain crazy?  Read the full article here and you be the judge.

What’s the longest amount of time you went without cutting your nails?

Now add 22 years to that number.

That’s how long Atlanta woman Jazz Ison Sinkfield has grown her nails out. Why would she do that, you ask? To meet famous people, of course!

Jazz Ison Sinkfield says her lengthy nails, the longest of which is 24 inches, is her divine gift – no doubt because she would have to be somewhat of a magician to carry out day to day duties with such long talons.
‘I am very, very blessed’, the grandmother told WXIA. ‘One day I want to meet Oprah. And a lot more celebrities. And I just want them to hear my story’.

Concerns about fish pedis surface

Friday, January 28th, 2011

We’ve talked about fish pedicures a few times on our Twitter page. They’re all the rage in Europe and Asia right now, but Peterborough Today reports that some animal welfare supporters are concerned about the health and well-being of the garra rufa fish being used.

A fish beauty treatment craze which has reached Peterborough has come under fire from animal welfare supporters.

The therapy where customers’ dead skin is nibbled off their feet by garra rufa fish has raised concerns that the fish would have to be starved to behave in this way.

Peter Hiscock, manager of Maidenhead Aquatics, in Peterborough Garden Park, Eye, said they refuse to sell the fish to anyone they suspect is setting up a spa.

He said: “To get them to do a good job you would need hundreds of fish kept at near starvation levels.

Can Manly Men Get Pedicures Too?

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

Ladies, how often do you see men getting pedicures? Better yet, have you ever seen a man getting a pedicure?

A majority of men seem to believe pedicures are strictly for women. But don’t tell that to actors Bob Saget and Brendan Fraser, and future NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.

They never got the memo that pedicures are a “women only” thing. If they did get the memo, we’re glad they were man enough to throw it in the trash.

You know who else didn’t get the memo? Rapper 50 Cent and his grandfather.

50 recently tweeted a few pics of him giving his grandfather a pedicure, stating, “He worked till he hurt his back to take care of us, so now I gotta take care of him…”

Well said, 50! There isn’t anything wrong with men pampering themselves.

But we want to know what you think. Do you think it’s OK for men to get pedicures?

Host A Back-to-School Spa Party for Girls

Friday, December 31st, 2010

For most kids around the country Winter break is almost over. Your child is probably dreading going back to school because she’s been waking up at noon, going to the movies with her friends, and has been homework-free for two weeks.

Ease some of her back-to-school stress by treating her and her friends to an at-home spa day!

An at-home spa day, or a spa themed party, sounds difficult to host but it’s not. Here’s a list of items you’ll need, and a brief how-to, for pulling off an amazing spa party.

What You’ll Need

Facial Cream, Foot Cream, Mani/Pedi Kits, Nail Polish (Multiple Colors), Scented Lotions

Atmosphere is Key

You want your girl and her friends to feel like they’re at a spa the moment they walk through your front door. Lighting scented candles (fresh linen or flower scents) is a great way to get them in the mood for some pampering.

Decorate the area you’ve designated for the party with flowers and hang neutral, solid-colored sheets around the room. Set up stations specifically for manicures, pedicures, facials, and skin care.

If you or someone you know is a great make-up artist, set up a station to teach your guests how to properly apply make-up.

To keep the party moving along, let each girl spend a minimum of 15 minutes at each station to ensure they get a proper spa treatment.

Drinks and Delectable Treats

Champagne and wine is definitely out of the question if you’re hosting a party for kids and teens. But give your guests the next best thing – sparkling cider. Serve it to them in plastic champagne glasses to give the party a more grown up feel.

In regards to food, finger-foods will work best. Tiny sandwiches, crackers and cheese on a stick, diced fruits, are light snacks that will keep their bellies from grumbling at the party.

Chocolate covered strawberries and pretzels are also fantastic treats to keep your guests satisfied.

No One Leaves Empty Handed

Before your guests leave, make sure you send them out with a goody bag. Include a bottle of nail polish, mini hand lotion, hair ties and clips, and a pair of Pedi-Please FlexFlops.

You can also give this goody bag to your guests before the party starts so they can use the items throughout the day.

Turn an ordinary home mani/pedi into an extraordinary experience

Friday, December 17th, 2010

Mani/Pedi time. We love it. You love it.

There’s nothing like going to a spa or a salon to get your nails done. But what about those days when you’re just too tired to make the trip? Or maybe you’ve got bills to pay and a professional mani/pedi isn’t in your budget?

There’s a solution for that – do it at home!

A home mani/pedi doesn’t sound exciting, but it can be if you make it. Turn this ordinary experience into an extraordinary experience by following these simple steps:

1. Close the Door

Turn your bedroom into your personal sanctuary by keeping distractions out of sight, and out of mind. That means telling your kids and significant other that you need a little “me time,” and that they can only enter if there’s an emergency.

That may sound a little rude, or maybe even extreme, but you deserve to be in a place that’s all your own.

2. Set the Mood with Music

Who’s your favorite singer? What’s your favorite album to listen to? Break out your mp3 player and let the music put you in a state of bliss.

Below are some artists and albums we recommend to help you relax:

Sade – Soldier of Love

Jack Johnson – In Between Dreams

3. Be Comfortable

Just because you can’t go to a spa, it doesn’t mean you can’t look like you’re at one.

Throw on a robe to complete the experience. You’ll be amazed at how fun an ordinary home mani/pedi can become if you do the little things to mimic a day at the spa – and dressing like you’re at one is a great way to start.

4. Soak Your Feet in Milk and Water

We know soaking your feet in milk and water sounds a little weird. But according to a tip we picked up at Teen Vouge, it will really help you get the most out of your pedicure.

Why? Because milk naturally nourishes the skin. Using water alone will quickly dry your feet out.

5. Look Extra Fab When You’re Done

When you’re done, stay smudge-free with a pair of pink Pedi Please FlexFlops. Not only are these comfy, but they look good too.

So when you’re ready to go back to the outside world, you’ll be stepping out in style and won’t have to worry about messing up your cute toes.
